Today I delivered my talk on Cloud Computing and Open Source at the Business Technology Summit 09. I reached the venue just before my session. JN Tata Auditorium at Indian Institute of Science is my favorite venue to present. I delivered many of my talks here in the last 10 years. Particularly, Hall-1 is very special to me as I happened to deliver some of my best sessions including the talk on ‘Linux & MS Windows – Side By Side’ at Foss.in in 2003.
My talk is based on the article that I wrote a week back. In fact, that post emerged during my preparation for this talk. I had the hall full with very interactive audiences. My biggest challenge was to cover all the aspects in 50 min. Surprisingly I finished on time and could also take a couple of questions. You can download the presentation from the Talks section of my website.

Later in the day, I joined Jinesh Varia, Technology Evangelist from Amazon for a deep dive on Amazon Web Services. I volunteered to proctor the lab session. This was a paid workshop with the concept of ‘Bring Your Own Laptop’. Due to connectivity issues, most of the attendees couldn’t download the tools required for the workshop. Jinesh covered the concepts of S3, EC2, SimpleDB and EBS. I found the discussion around migration and architecture very interesting and useful. I am inspired to write a white paper on migrating a classic LAMP application to AWS.
I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of BTS 09. Congratulations to Dilip Thomas, CEO, Salt March India.
I wanted to write a technical book for a long time. Though some of the well known publishers approached me, I never mustered enough courage to sign up and commit to them. With a full time job and a busy schedule, I am not sure if I would be able ...

Hi - I attended your session and it was really great. In fact it served to be an inspiration for me to write this blog on Cloud computing titled "Oh Cloudia!" - http://www.xioni.in/blog/index.cfm/2009/11/9/Oh...
Thank you!

I like your Presentation on Cloud Computing and Open Source..
Thanks Kalyan! Appreciate you taking the time to visit my blog.

That's was a nice session, however it was more into cloud computing than what is promised in title. I was expecting more of how open source can be used in cloud.
Hi Riyaz - Your observation is right. But I had the challenge of mapping OSS to the Cloud within 45 min. I had to establish the concepts of Cloud before talking about OSS. I plan to deliver more sessions on XEN, KVM, Hadoop, UEC and Eucalyptus. I may get a slot to speak at FOSS.in and I will try to cover more of OSS in that.
Riyaz
@Jani, Yeah I agree, your session is more than enough to understand what is cloud computing.
Your style of mixing concepts with Case study is a good flavor, may be we Indians used with the masala kind of stuffs start from Movies to tech sessions ;-)
@Riyaz, I am presenting the same topic at FOSS.in next month. Would love to hear from you on what you expect there. Please send me your contact details to mail (at) janakiramm (dot) net. I will get in touch with you.
Thanks for giving me your feedback!
