Presenting at the Cloud Computing Conference

Friday, August 22, 2008 7:22:21 PM (India Standard Time, UTC+05:30)

Hysea is organizing the first ever conference on ‘Cloud Computing’ at Google in Hyderabad. I am presenting on the Microsoft Live Mesh consumer scenarios. The complete agenda is here!

There is a BarCamp on the similar topic next week and I am planning to present there. If you haven’t registered for the Hysea event, drop your name on the BarCamp wiki and try to be there.

PS - Just got to know that Google has tightened the security and will not be allowing the speakers to carry their personal laptops. I am prepared only for a demo and hardly have any slides. Given that my session is only few hours away from now, not sure how I am going to handle this. I am planning to take screen shots of my demo and carry it in an USB stick.

Accessing Live Mesh From The Mobile Phone

Friday, August 22, 2008 7:07:36 PM (India Standard Time, UTC+05:30)

Do you know that there is a mobile version of Live Mesh? Just visit http://m.mesh.com on your mobile browser to see this in action. This comes very handy when you want to access a spreadsheet or a document residing on your PC. Though the native Mesh integration may provide the best possible experience on the device, this will at least let the devices (both Windows Mobile and non Windows Mobile) participate in the Mesh. Can someone try this on an iPhone and share the experience?

Below are some screen shots showing the Live Desktop and the mobile experience of Mesh

Got A Windows Mobile Phone? Try DashWire

Friday, July 04, 2008 2:32:32 PM (India Standard Time, UTC+05:30)

Last week I heard about DashWire from one of my friends. The concept sounded pretty cool to me and I decided to give it a shot. What do I have to say about it? I am delighted!

Dashwire let's you maintain a backup of your phone contacts, SMS, IE favorites, ringtones, pictures and videos on the cloud. All you got to do is to first signup on the website and then download their tiny WM App on your WM phone. This app synchronizes everything from your phone to the cloud. Next time when you switch to phone, just install this nifty cab file and viola! you got your settings back!

What I love the most out of Dashwire is the ability to send SMS from the browser. This SMS gets routed through your mobile phone using your GSM network. But the convenience it offers is awesome. You can also browse all the ringtones stored on your phone from the web UI and clicking the play button the site will literally play the tune on your phone!

You can configure Dashwire to post your status updates to Facebook and Twitter so that when you change it on your phone UI, it reflects at these popular micro blogging sites.

To conclude - DashWire is ActiveSync on steroids. I  wish ActiveSync/WMDC gives me this kind of functionality out of the box.
